An undergraduate level understanding of UNIX programming environment and good programming skills in C is assumed.

Course Objectives:

The course will be directed to a graduate audience interested in understanding the major concepts of operating system design. The detailed operation of various components of operating systems will be presented. The project component of the course is intended to provide hands-on experience to reinforce concepts discussed in this course.

Grading:

The tentative weight associated with each grading component is as follows:

• Assignments - 25%
• Quiz - 15%
• Minor I - 15%
• Minor II - 20%
• Major - 25%

The minor I exam will be held on Sep 05, 2006 (Tue) between 9:30am and 10:30am.
The minor II exam will be held on Oct 16, 2006 (Mon) between 9:30am and 10:30am.

The major exam will be held on Dec 1, 2006 (Fri) between 8:00 am and 10:00am.

Grading Policy:

• Assignments have to be handed in before lecture begins on the due date.
• No make-up for quizzes.
• Make-up for exams will be issued only under exceptional circumstances provided prior arrangements are made with the instructor.
• Instructor reserves the right to deny requests for make-up exams.
