The project aims at building an interactive learning environment of Chinese Language for non-Chinese speaking students (NCS) students by using IT and providing learning opportunities.
Purpose of the Project
The aim of this project is to establish an innovative model of learning and teaching in Chinese language education, to develop a school-based Chinese curriculum for non-Chinese speaking students (NCS), to equip teachers and students to teach and learn Chinese in a more interactive, creative and interesting way by using information technology, to enrich NCS students' Chinese language learning experiences, to create more learning opportunities for NCS students in Hong Kong by organizing inter-school activities and to share successful experience of learning and teaching Chinese for non-Chinese speaking students to other schools in Hong Kong.

Design /methodology /approach
The project established an innovative model of learning and teaching model in Chinese language learning by developing a virtual learning environment of Chinese language learning in schools for NCS students. A student-centered methodology was adopted to provide an interactive and creative environment among teachers and students. The 3rd Putonghua Speech Festival was organized to provide an inter-school opportunities for NCS Students in Hong Kong. A sharing session of the project for teachers to share good practices and experiences were organized.
Findings /Results /Evaluation of the Project
Teacher's gained sense of achievement in the completion of school-based curriculum and the improvement of teaching and learning quality of Adapted Chinese lessons. Student found sense of satisfaction in communicating with students in Mainland Chinese in Putonghua. Inter-school Putonghua Festival provided learning opportunities to students to gain more confidence and develop better understanding of others schools' students.

Practical implications
The project establishes an innovative model of learning and teaching in Chinese language among NCS students which improves the learning and teaching quality effectively. It enables other schools and educators to understand how diversified lessons can cater for the needs of NCS students to learn Chinese and how important of learning opportunities can enrich NCS students' learning and raise their interests on Chinese language. The inter-school student activities and sharing sessions of the project also further strengthen the professional relationship and communication between schools offering adapted Chinese.
Social implications
Chinese ability of NCS students were generally improved which led better academic results and also better communication skills of students. NCS students developed better understanding of Chinese cu1ture which is good for their social life in Hong Kong.
Originality/value (Importance) of the project
The project establishes an innovative model of learning and teaching in Chinese language among NCS students which improves the learning and teaching quality effectively. The curriculum and lesson plans that adopted information technologies (including mobile app) were refined and developed.
IT software used
1. Education apps and online resources for teaching and learning were used;
2. A cross-platform e-Learning system was used in the lessons (approximately 15% of the lessons of F.1 and F.2 adapted Chinese);
3. An online resources bank was set up for teachers to share resources and platform in teaching Adapted Chinese for NCS students.
