Centre of Excellence

Introduction

The Education Bureau invites government and aided secondary schools, primary schools, special schools and Direct Subsidy Scheme schools principals and teachers to participate in the IT in Education Centre of Excellence Scheme through the Annual Teacher Secondment Exercise. Each participating school has to nominate two serving teachers to be the part-time secondees. In return schools would each be provided with allowance to employ a supply teacher for one year to shoulder the teaching load of the secondees.

 

The main duties of secondees are as follow:

This programme is effective in helping secondees to broaden their horizons, enrich their experience and knowledge of Information Technology in Education, and develop their potential and professional skills.

  • The school promotes the development of IT in Education pedagogy, including WebQuest, Information Literacy, Media Literacy, Weblog and Mobile Learning etc.
  • The school employs Web 2.0 tools and cloud-based technology to conduct collaborative learning.
  • The school utilises wireless environment and mobile devices, together with cloud-based technology and GPS, in outdoor investigation. We have also assisted other schools to conduct outdoor investigation.
  • Our IT in Education Team was invited by other schools as guest speakers of the staff development, to promote the use of IT in Education in order to enhance the effectiveness of learning and teaching.

CCC Rotary Secondary School

  • In 2013/14 school year, the school joined the “Support Scheme for e-Learning in Schools” to enhance our WiFi infrastructure to cater for the need of using e-textbooks and e-learning resources in class.
  • The school employs tablet computers and Microsoft Office 365, together with school-based curricula, to support the e-learning activities in different subjects, including interactive classroom teaching and outdoor investigation.
  • Our teachers join different Communities of Practice (including 'e- leadership', English Language, Mathematics and Liberal Studies) to share e-learning teaching experience to establish sharing and exchange platform.
  • The school use the 3D printers and LASER engraving machine to teach the 3D printing technology in Technology education curriculum. The school also encourage students to develop research projects using IT, in order to promote creativity.
  • The school cultivate students to participate robotics competitions, in order to promote creativity and problem-solving skills. The school was awarded the Champion in the WRO and VEX Robot Challenge Hong Kong Region tournament several times, and represented Hong Kong in the national and international competitions.

  • The school integrates and implements IT in Education into classroom teaching, to enhance the effectiveness of learning and teaching.
  • The school has good experience in utilising tablet computers in classroom teaching and school administration. We have also designed a “one-stop” management solution, assisting school IT technicians to manage the tablet computers and wireless network more effectively.
  • The school promotes healthy Internet culture through campus television and school-based project “Creative Media”.
  • The school offers training courses to teachers, including employing different types tablet computers (iOS and Android) for learning and teaching.

  • The school has been proactively developing IT in Education, integrating IT into the curriculum of each subject, so as to enhance the effectiveness of learning and teaching and students’ interest in learning.
  • Starting from 2011/12, the school cooperates with Task Force on Language Support, uplifting students’ interest in writing through blogging.

  • The school utilises wireless environment and mobile devices to enhance the effectiveness of learning and teaching in various subjects, including Integrated Humanities, Liberal Studies, English Language and Geography.
  • The school use Flipped Classroom in Liberal Studies and English Language, in order to promote students’ self-directed learning.
  • Teachers of English Language make use of different Learning Management Systems and interactive Apps to improve students’ reading and writing skills. They have also shared their teaching experience with other teachers.

SKH St. Mary's Church Mok Hing Yiu College

  • Since 2000, the school developed a school-based administrative and communicative all-in-one portal to manage students’ affairs such as attendance and Student Learning Profile (SLP) for Other Learning Experience (OLE).
  • In 2013/14 school year, the school joined the “Support Scheme for e-Learning in Schools” to enhance our WiFi infrastructure to cater for the needs of using e-textbooks and e-learning resources in class.
  • The school actively participates in the ‘E-Textbook Market Development Scheme’, and assists in developing and improving the e-textbook for the curriculum of Life and Society.
  • The school employs Google App for Education and Chrome for Education in learning and teaching, we also use collaboration platform to foster interactions in the classrooms. The subject teachers of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) also keenly develop various Android and iOS mobile apps, aiming to promote students’ self-directed learning and self-assessment.
  • The school utilise the facilities of Campus TV for conducting Media Production Course, which has been widely applied in different subjects, including the Liberal Studies, English Language, History and Culture, and Multimedia in Visual Arts.

  • In 2013/14 school year, the school joined the “Support Scheme for e-Learning in Schools” to enhance our WiFi infrastructure to cater for the need of using e-textbooks and e-learning resources in class.
  • In 2014, the school kick started BYOD in S1 and S4. In 2015/16 school year, S1, S2, S4 and S5 are BYOD classes.

True Light Middle School of Hong Kong

  • The school participated in the “Pilot Scheme on e-Learning in Schools” from 2011/12 to 2013/14, and adopted iPad as the hardware platform for implementing e-Learning.
  • Teachers focus on changing pedagogy from traditional teaching to student-centric learning, engaging and empowering students in the learning process through thoughtful use of technology. Currently, we have two Apple Distinguished Educators.
  • In the school, lower forms English language, Integrated Science, Mathematics, Chinese History and Computer Literacy are the major subjects involved in e-Learning.
  • In 2014, the school kicked started BYOD in the 4 classes of S1. In the school year 2015-16, S1 to S3 students can join BYOD at will.
  • In 2015, the school has renovated and transform the school library and MMLC to become an open learning space (called OASIS) which spans two complete floors. This new learning space facilitates mobility, flexibility and collaboration as required by 21st century learners.

Tsung Tsin College

  • e-Learning is set as one of the major concerns in our school 3-year plan, “IT in Education Strategies” were established in all KLAs. Our BYOD policy is co-constructed by different stakeholders including teachers, parents and students (form 4 to form 6).
  • “Curriculum Reform Committee” was formed to establish the school-based IT in Education policy for the purpose of enhancing student’s learning motivation. In addition, a new group called “E-Learning Focus Group” consisting of teachers from Chinese, English, Mathematics and Liberal Studies was formed. Teachers in this group always get together to explore innovative pedagogies to enhance the effectiveness of learning and teaching.
  • The junior ICT curriculum was revised. According to the objectives of “Education in 21st Century”, nurturing of student’s information literacy will be more emphasized.
  • All classrooms and special rooms in our school are equipped with optical fiber network and wifi coverage. Tablet computers were provided to all teachers for teaching.

  • The school has been designated by the EDB as a Professional Development School (PDS) from 2012/13 school year. We are responsible for leading professional teaching and learning on how to integrate the iPad.

  • The school has developed an interactive Learning and Teaching e-Platform for teachers to deploy tablet computers more easily in their teaching.

Jordan Valley St. Joseph's Catholic Primary School

  • In 2014/15 school year, the school joined the "Support Scheme for e-Learning in Schools" to enhance our WiFi infrastructure to cater for the need of using e-textbooks and e-learning resources in class.
  • Since 2013, the school kick started BYOD and will extend to 12 classes from P.4 to P.6 in 2016/17 school year, mainly in the subjects of Chinese, English and Mathematics.
  • eBooks, free learning platforms and free apps (including Google apps, Edmodo, Socrative, Nearpod, Edpuzzle, Kahoot and Mobizen) are commonly used by teachers to conduct e-learning lessons to facilitate the effectiveness of learning and teaching.
  • Our school teachers were awarded the Gold Award (Primary Session) in the Award Schemes for eLearning (organised by EDB and HKEdCity) in both 2014/15 and 2015/16 school year.

PLK Chee Jing Yin Primary School

  • The school was awarded the Chief Executive’s Award for Teaching Excellence: Excellent Award in Information Technology in Education in 2011. The school participated in the “Pilot Scheme on e-Learning in Schools” from 2011/12 to 2013/14, with the project titled “The newfangled orbit of electronic learning – developing a conjoint network of information literacy”.
  • The school has implemented the BYOD proposal since 2014 and participated in the “Support Scheme for e-Learning in Schools” in 2015, so as to upgrade the school’s wireless network and IT infrastructure. The school has participated in the Professional Development Schools (PDS) Scheme in 2015/16 and 2016/17 school year so as to support the development of e-learning in Mathematics.
  • The school establishes a mobile learning platform iClass and provides a free educational version (iOS based), complementing with a web-based user manual, so that teachers can design school-based mobile learning activities. The school has assisted other schools to conduct school-based outdoor investigation project.
  • The school promotes the development of information literacy and integrates information literacy into the curriculum. The school also shares and exchanges the teaching practices, experience and related resources with other schools.
  • The school has set up a database of interactive e-books and e-resources and share the resources with other schools. The school represented Hong Kong to undertake cross-boundaries sharing sessions in Macau, Taiwan, Japan, etc.

Sam Shui Natives Assn Lau Pun Cheung School

  • The school is a special school that provides full-time services for children with mild intellectual disability. Taking the role of Special Education Resource Centre, we also have been providing support services to mainstream schools.
  • The school works together with special schools and also mainstream schools teachers and parents to assist the learning of children with special educational needs (SEN). They can provide electronic resources to meet the needs of the school and offer support to the operation of IT in teaching.
  • The school offers support to mainstream schools in the learning and teaching with IT. They have organized several seminars, workshops and sharing sessions for teachers and parents.
  • During the past decade, the school has produced and shared more than 200 school-based educational software in different subjects, including e-textbooks, educational websites, educational videos, educational software and learning games, which are suitable to be used by students with mild intellectual disability from junior primary school to senior secondary school. They have launched a "resource sharing series" of educational software sharing session seven times, for the education sector and the public, to promote the use of IT in learning and teaching and distributed the teaching CD at each session.
  • In 2014/15, the school became the first served as the Information Technology Center of Excellence (CoE) special schools. This year, we continue to be committed to the development of the role of a pioneer with special learning needs of students of electronic resources, and provide Teacher training and professional development in information technology for interactive Learning to special schools and mainstream schools with special educational needs (SEN) students.

Sacred Heart Canossian School

  • The school participated in ‘Pilot Scheme on e-Learning in Schools’ from 2011/12 to 2013/14. The pilot scheme which titled "Development of an ‘adaptive’ e-Learning platform for Chinese Language learning" helped to provide a school-based Chinese e-learning platform and materials.
  • The school was invited to participate in EMADS to help with the development of Chinese e-textbooks. At the same time, we were also invited to participate in the "Student Assessment Repository (STAR)" and became one of the pilot schools, in which we learnt to experience the benefits of giving instant feedback through the electronic evaluation system.
  • The school has implemented some "School-based Coding Program" courses to all levels in recent years. Students have learnt to strengthen their logical and creative thinking through writing different kinds of computer entertainment programmes.
  • By using the "DIY Interactive Exercise " tool in setting online exercises, it helps to consolidate what students have learnt. Our teachers make good use of free learning software or platform tools such as Nearpod, GoogleSite, Edpuzzle etc, to strengthen our pedagogy in e-learning. Apart from this, programs such as oral training, essay appreciation on online forums and mathematics game booths are available by using tablet computers. Teachers also apply Google Apps to construct project-based learning in various collaborative platforms in order to strengthen students’ interactive learning during lessons.
  • Teachers have made use of online registration system to smooth the application and registration process more efficient and convenient.

  • The school was appointed as “Centre of Excellence” from 2010/11 to 2011/12 and helped to promote "Depository of curriculum-based Teaching Resources" for e-learning with great enthusiasm. We also aim at helping teachers to adapt changes in teaching paradigm so as to enhance teaching effectiveness and learning outcomes.
  • The school nurture our teachers' and students' creativity and IT skills through innovative teaching ideas, curriculum reforms, and teaching try-outs on different subjects.
