Group A (Monday)

Problem 1: Design an image acquisition system to capture hand-images for personal identification. Goals – Compact, Fast, Low-cost, Can acquire video and still images.

Project 3: Design a digital camera-based product to automatically take attendance in the classroom

Project 4: Design a product that can automatically inspect the products for defects/problems on the production lines. The product can be any machine parts or medicines.

Design Parameters:

 (i)  Technical design

  • Acquisition of data (storage, low-cost, video/still, fast)

  • Signal/Image processing, Hardware design, Software Structure

  •  Noise elimination

  • Mechanical aspects of the design

  • Illumination

  • Optical system

  •  Power supplies, device specifications, component choices, sourcing, data sheets, tolerances, aging, thermal dissipation, passive component characteristics

 

(ii)  Efficiency of the design:

  •  Power efficiency

  • Cost efficiency

  • Space efficiency

 

(iii) Cost:

  •  What will be the overall cost of this product?

  •  How can the cost be reduced?

  •  Price of a competing product

  •  Methods to reduce the price further

 

(iv) Unique Selling Points – Left to your imagination
