COMPSAC is the IEEE Computer Society Signature Conference on Computers, Software and Applications. It is a major international forum for academia, industry, and government to discuss research results and advancements, emerging problems, and future trends in computer and software technologies and applications. The technical program includes keynote addresses, research papers, industrial case studies, plenary and specialized panels, fast abstracts, a doctoral symposium, poster sessions, and a number of workshops and tutorials on emerging and important topics. The theme of the 41st COMPSAC is Building Digital Autonomy for a Sustainable World.
The Hong Kong Polytechnic University
is located conveniently at the center of the city.
It is located just next to the Hung Hom MTR (subway) Station,
providing train service linking to mainland China. It is also located right
next to the first cross harbour tunnel, with many buses crossing the tunnel
stopping at the university.
You may also take a taxi from Kowloon Station to the hotel directly.
The fare is around HKD 30 to 35.
The Hong Kong Polytechnic University is located right next to the Hung Hom
MTR Station. It is at the border of Hung Hom district, which it belongs to,
and to Tsim Sha Tsui East district on the south, which is a tourist area.
Another close enough MTR station is the Jordan MTR Station, about 10 min walk
from the main campus entrance on south west side (with a fountain) along
Austin Road. It may be a faster option depending on where you are traveling
to.
It is very easy to get around by bus or by subway.
Hong Kong operates a highly efficient subway system, called
MTR.
It now covers all the 18 administrative districts in Hong Kong,
following the opening of the South Island Line late December 2016.
Hong Kong Disneyland can be reached by the Disneyland Resort Line via Tung
Chung Line
and Hong Kong Ocean Park can be reached by the new South Island Line.
It is highly convenient to purchase a stored value card, called
Octopus
Card. It can be used to ride MTR at a discounted price, as well as buses
and most mini-buses.
Due to the disconnected nature of Tsim Sha Tsui Station and Tsim Sha Tsui East
Station (need to exit one before entering the other,
like some subway stations in Tokyo), you need to use the Octopus Card
for a transfer between the two stations without a charge.
Using standard single journey ticket will require separate payment for the
two "separate" trips.
The Octopus Card can also be used for payment at 7-11, two major supermarkets,
and some other fast food stores.
Just check for the existence of the octopus device at the payment counter.
The deposit for the card is HKD 50, available at MTR stations.
The remaining value (no more than 500) and the deposit can be refunded at the
Customer Service Centre at the airport or at any MTR station with a
handling fee of HKD 9. The handling fee is waived if the card has been
purchased for more than 3 months.
In addition to standard Octopus Card, if you are traveling much as a tourist,
you may purchase the
Airport
Express Travel Pass instead.
This is an Octopus Card with zero stored value. You can travel almost unlimited
on MTR for 72 hours including either one or two Airport Express rides.
