George Baciu

Professor

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Department of Computing

Prof. George Baciu holds PhD and MSc degrees in Engineering and a B.Math degree in Computer Science and Applied Mathematics from the University of Waterloo. He has been a member of the Computer Graphics Laboratory and the Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence Laboratory at the University of Waterloo and subsequently Director of the Graphics And Music Experimentation Laboratory at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in Hong Kong. Currently, Professor Baciu is Director of the Graphics And Multimedia Applications (GAMA) Laboratory in the Department of Computing at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. His research interests are primarily in computer graphics, physically-based illumination, rendering and motion synthesis. His work covers problems and applications in image and color analysis, rendering, constraint-based synthesis of large-scale virtual environments, topological analysis of structures, multi-body dynamics, motion design for character animation, mesh generation, collision detection and dynamic response for complex multilayered cloth models, information theory and entropy optimization methods for data segmentation and object classification. Recently, most his work is focused on textile fabric analysis, evaluation, complexity measures, color and virtual cloth dynamics.
