iTextile

iTextile is an intelligent searching system for the development of smart woven fabric database, which allows the user to work on one digital platform for the analyzing, indexing, searching, rendering and prototyping of the fabric design.

The detailed objectives are:

  • Development of a professional woven fabric database for the purpose of quick prototyping and designing of woven fabrics, compatible with current CAD design format, which is one kind of image-based smart database

  • Development of specific image scanning system for the appearance collection of woven fabrics, also for the purpose of create image-indexing for each weave pattern style.

  • Development of weave code technology for the quick sorting and searching of weave pattern, in terms of point map/ weave diagram. In additional, copyright protection and watermarking will be also included.

  • Development of the image searching engine based on image retrieval and pattern recognition, two level searching could be provided: essential feature level and structural analysis at yarn level.

  • Development of the colour searching engine based on device independence color analysis module, it can provide the color matching much more accurately, in the consideration of illumination, and fuzzy classification of color index.

  • Development of keyword searching engine.

  • Development of the rendering module for the 3D simulation and visualization of weave pattern.


In this project, we will develop four complementary parts of an intelligent searching system for the development of smart woven fabric database:

  1. The establishment of professional woven fabric database platform, including detailed specification from commercial CAD software for weave diagram design (loom draft, denting plan, and draft plan).

  2. The digital scanning engine using FabricEye for this database, it can collect and analyze the dual-side images of fabrics for the purpose of create image-indexing for each weave pattern style.

  3. The quick searching engine for this database, it is a specific searching engine for fabric materials, which can do searching in three kinds of ways: image, colour and key word.

  4. The rendering engine for 3D fabric simulation, it is used to demonstrate and visualize the fabric design based on 3D rendering and simulation technology, and also provides the on-line interactive design and evaluate the fabric design directly.
