CHAN, Stephen Chi-Fai (Dr.)

Data Engineering, Geometric Modeling, Collaborative Work, Web-based Information Systems, Computer Aided Learning, Service Learning.

 


Dr. Chan received his PhD degree from The University of Rochester, where he was a research assistant at the Production Automation Project. He then worked on a NURBS-based surface modeling system for industrial design for a computer graphics company in Toronto. Subsequently he worked as a research officer for the National Research Council of Canada on computer-integrated manufacturing and represented Canada in the development of the international product data exchange standard, STEP. He joined the then Hong Kong Polytechnic in 1993. Among other things, Dr. Chan is currently working on information sharing on Web-based information systems. Specific issues include collaborative work, 3D shapes, XML, and mediator-based architectures. Applications include education, design & manufacturing, and e-commerce.
