2.  Short Biography

 

Dacheng Tao received the B.Eng. degree from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), the MPhil degree from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), and the PhD degree from the University of London (UoL). Currently, he is an academic staff at the Department of Computing in the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, is a visiting professor in the Xi¡¯Dian University and holds a visiting position at Birkbeck in University of London. His research interests include artificial intelligence, bioinformatics, biometrics, computer vision, data mining, geoinformatics, machine learning, multimedia, pattern classification, remote sensing, statistics, and visual surveillance.

 

He has published more than 80 scientific articles extensively at IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence (TPAMI), IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering (TKDE), IEEE Transactions on Image Processing (TIP), IEEE Transactions on Multimedia (TMM), IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology (TCSVT), IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man and Cybernetics (TSMC), IEEE International Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR), IEEE International Conference on Image Processing (ICIP), IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing (ICASSP), IEEE International Conference on Pattern Recognition (ICPR), IEEE International Conference on Data Mining (ICDM), ACM International Conference on Multimedia (MM), ACM International Conference on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining (KDD), etc. with best paper award and nominations. Previously he gained several Meritorious Awards from the International Interdisciplinary Contest in Modeling, which is the highest level mathematical modeling contest in the world, organized by COMAP.

 

He is an associate editor of Neurocomputing (Elsevier) and the Official Journal of the International Association for Statistical Computing -- Computational Statistics & Data Analysis (Elsevier). He authored/edited of the forthcoming books entitled with ¡°Tensors in Image Processing and Computer Vision¡±, ¡°Semantic Mining Technologies for Multimedia Databases¡±, ¡°Multimedia Analysis, Processing and Communications¡±, and ¡°Computational Intelligence and Its Applications¡±. He is a guest editor for Computer Vision and Image Understanding (Elsevier) special issue on video analysis, the Pattern Recognition (Elsevier) special issue on learning semantics from multimedia content, Signal Processing (Elsevier) special issue on visual information analysis for security, the International Journal of Image and Graphics (World Scientific) special issue on machine learning in image and graphics, the Neurocomputing (Elsevier) special issue on Neurocomputing for vision research, and the Pattern Recognition Letters (Elsevier) special issue on video-based object and event analysis. He (co-)chaired for special sessions, invited sessions, workshops and conferences. He served for more than 50 major international conferences such as CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, ICDM, KDD, and Multimedia, and more than 15 top international journals including TPAMI, TIP, TCSVT, TMM, TIFS, TSMC-B, Computer Vision and Image Understanding (CVIU), and Information Science.
