-- Whatever you are doing, work at it with enthusiasm, as to the Lord and not for people. (Colossians 3:23)

Hi! My name is Eric. I am an assistant professor at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (HKPU). I received my MPhil degree in computer science from the University of Hong Kong (HKU). Then, with God's bless and the support of Croucher Scholarship, I received my PhD degree from ETH Zurich in two years.  At ETH Zurich, I was a member of the Systems Group.  Before I returned to Hong Kong, I had worked for Google (Mountain View). I was also a visiting scientist of Microsoft (Redmond).

I am a member of the database group in the department.  My research interests are database, data mining, and software engineering.  Recently, I mainly focus on OLAP (business intelligence/decision support) of non-traditional data (e.g., graph data, RFID sequence data), big data analytic (e.g., Hadoop), core database technology (e.g., query processing, query optimization, benchmarking and testing), and database usability.

To students who want to join my research group: Generally, I do not reply any unsolicited emails unless you go through the procedure stated here.
