Traditional fingerprint images are popularly acquired by pressing or rolling one’s fingers against the sensors surface which can be from silicon, glass or the polymer. Due to sensor noise, improper placement of fingers and skin deformation, the resulting fingerprint images are therefore often distorted and/or degraded in their quality. The contactless fingerprint acquisition technologies have been introduced for better hygiene, security and to overcome these limitations. More and more fingerprint identification systems are required to accurately match the fingerprint images from different kinds of fingerprint sensors. It’s important to investigate fingerprint sensor interoperability between the contact-based and contactless fingerprint sensors.
A new fingerprints database acquiring from 300 different clients consists of 1800 2D contactless fingerprint images and corresponding 1800 2D contact-based fingerprints is developed and made available publicly to promote further research efforts in this area. As detailed in reference [1], database was acquired during September 2014 to February 2016 in our university.
