The Hong Kong Polytechnic University 3D Finger Knuckle Images Database

Descriptions

Finger knuckle pattern is essentially a 3D biometric identifier. However, the capabilities from such 3D features have never been investigated for the biometrics identification. This two-session database been made publicly available to advance further research and development for the real world applications. This version of the database has been acquired from 228 different persons, using forefingers and also the middle finger fingers, and also provides segmented and reconstructed images from the photometric stereo approaches.

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University Contactless Finger Knuckle Images Database (Version 3.0)

Descriptions

Contactless knuckle identification from the predetermined or fixed pose finger knuckle images can achieve very high match accuracy. However, a range of civilian, forensic and surveillance application require accurate capabilities to match knuckle images that are acquired from the completely contactless and varying finger poses. This two-session database is introduced in public domain, to develop and advance such biometrics matching capabilities, and has been acquired from 221 different subjects.

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University Contactless 2D to Contact-based 2D Fingerprint Images Database

Descriptions

The contactless fingerprint acquisition technologies have been introduced for better hygiene, security and to address problems with limited accuracy due to the deformations of fingerprint images while contact-based image acquisition. Significant degradation in matching accuracy is observed while using legacy fingerprint images to match with contactless fingerprint images. This two-session database from more than 300 clients using contactless and contact-based traditional sensors is provided in public domain to advance much needed research in this area.

The combined database from 712 different subjects hand dorsal images is made publicly available. This database also provides two session hand dorsal images, with many samples in different age groups that have been acquired after very long interval ( 4 to 8 years) to support studies relating to the stability of knuckle patterns.

This database consists of total 12,540 iris images which are acquired with 15 instances from 209 different subjects. Each of the iris images are of 640 x 480 pixels size and with pixel correspondences in both the near-infrared and visible iris images. Each subject data is stored in separate folder starting from 001 to 209. Each subject's folder consists of two folders, namely VIS and NIR. Again these two folders consists of two more folders for storing left and right iris images. Twelve subjects are also participated in second session and their left and right iris images are also available in this database.

Descriptions

This database consists of 2460 different face images from 410 different subjects. These images have been acquired under real environment which primarily focuses on make-up and disguises covariates. This database also provides ground truth (eyeglass, goggle, mustache, and beard) to evaluate capability of advanced algorithms in automatically oredicting them for advanced surveillance capabilities. The people in the database are acquired from the publicly accessible websites. Majority of them are celebrities from the movie, music, sports and also politics. Celebrities from the Europe and US are the majority, along with some from Asia, Africa, Pacific and Middle East. Each person in the database has six images, the first image is selected to represent clean impression. The rest of the five face images are faces with different levels of makeup or disguise creating accessories.

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University Contact-free 3D/2D Hand Images Database (Ver 1.0)

Descriptions

The 3D hand images in the database were acquired using a commercially available 3D digitizer Minolta VIVID 910. The data collection process spanned over 4 months and 177 subjects volunteered for the database. The participants were mainly the students and staff from our institute and were in the age range of 18 ~ 50 years, with multiple ethnic backgrounds. Each subject contributed 5 hand images (range and a registered intensity image acquired simultaneously) in the first session, followed by another 5 in the second session. Therefore our database currently has 3,540 hand images (of 3D and corresponding 2D). Time lapse between two data collection sessions was not fixed for all subjects; instead it ranged from a minimum of one week (only for 27 subjects) to three months. All the hand images were collected in indoor environment, with no restrictions on the surrounding illumination. In fact, our data collection process was carried out at three different locations which had notable variations in surrounding illuminations.
