| Welcome to the ACM-HK winter issue of the 2005
newsletter!
In the following, we shall report on the Collegiate
Programming Contest 2005, and the Computer Chinese
Checkers Competition, a large-scale event that
we co-organized with the Computer Science Department
of the Hong Kong Baptist University. The Contest
received a very good response with over 20 teams
formed from the participating universities.
This year, a team from the Hong Kong University
of Science and Technology won the 15th ACM-HK
Programming Contest held in July 2005.
We have sponsored and promoted several international
and regional activities and conferences held
in Hong Kong with details listed in ACM-HK web
site http://www.acm.org.hk/. This year, we are
going to organize the 7th ACM-HK Postgraduate
Research Day in March 2006 at the Hong Kong
Polytechnic University, which will be a mini-conference
for all research students in Hong Kong to present
their work. We are also planning to offer a
number of short courses to promote professional
computing in various areas.
At present, ACM-HK continues to be a representative
in the committee working on the certification
of computing professionals for HKSAR.
We are looking forward to our members’
continuing support and participation in the
upcoming events.
